| Stagg Heavy Duty Amplifier or Monitor Stand |
1. What kind of amplifier should I
buy?
There are many brand names available today. We always recommend
that you go out and test play amplifiers using your own guitar or
bass guitar. There are amplifiers designed to complement every
style of playing. We think you should come here and try out our
amplifiers. We can demonstrate the difference in sound between
solid state and tube amplifiers and show you how the built in
effects work.
2. How much should I spend?
You can buy a 15 watt practice amplifiers for about $80.00. An
amplifier capable of keeping up with bass guitar and drums would
start around $299.00. Bass guitar amplifiers start around $80.00.
A larger stage amplifier will start somewhere around $350.00.
Peavey came out with the Vypyr 15 amplifier for $99.99. Built in
effects and amp models at a very resonable price for so many
features. This is becoming the best selling amplifier of all time
for us.
3. What size of amplifier should I
buy and how much power do I need?
You need to consider where you intend on using your amplifier. If
you plan on playing on stage in a band, you are going to need an
amplifier that will compete with bass and drums. You should
consider at least 50 watts RMS for any combo application. The
exception may be if you play at low volumes and the band doesn't
compete volume wise. No matter what, you should strive to have it
sound balanced. The best musicians in the world are not going to
accomplish much if one instrument is so out of balance with the
others you can't here what's going on. There is only so much
volume you can tolerate on stage before you can't hear anyone
else. In a large venue, the amplifier becomes your monitor and
the sound must be sent through the sound system to fill out the
room or area.
4. Should I buy a tube or solid state
amplifier?
There has been a resurgence of tube amplifier popularity in the
past few years. The main benefit of a tube amplifier is the big
warm sound and the subtlety of the overdrive channel. Blues
players tend to be big fans of tube amplifiers. Solid state
amplifiers tend to have a heavier, tighter distortion and this
can be achieved at lower volumes than with a tube amplifier. You
can have heavy, max out distortion at very low volumes with solid
state amplifiers. Tube amplifiers also require replacing the
tubes periodically, which can get expensive. Of course the best
way to find out what is best for you is to come in and play some
amplifiers and see what you fits your style.
5. What is covered under warranty?
Generally speaking, most warranties cover normal
manufacturers defects, due to materials and workmanship.
The time for which they are covered varies from brand to brand.
6. What is the primary difference
between a guitar amp and a bass guitar amp?
Bass guitar amps generally have a larger speaker, reinforced to
handle the low frequencies of bass. It takes more power to
amplify bass without getting frequency distortion. The cabinet
design is usually a closed back design. The closed back helps
accentuate the lows. Most guitar amps are open back, eliminating
some of the low overtones and helping to create a bright clear
tone. Guitar amplifier's also usually have a distortion channel
and reverb. One channel will be a clean tone only and the second
channel will have a variable distortion tone. Most guitar amps
will allow you to switch between the clean and distortion
channels using a remoter foot switch. There are several models of
amplifiers available that also have effects built in such as
stereo chorus or digital delay. A stereo chorus amp uses 2
speakers and a power amp for each speaker. The selected effect
pans back and forth between the 2 speakers creating a surround
sound effect. Some people have described chorus as giving a 6
string guitar a 12 string sound. Keyboard amplifiers are designed
to play clean with extended bass response and typically have a
horn to handle the high end. Acoustic Guitar amplifiers are
similar to keyboard amplifiers in the fact that they are designed
to reproduce a clean sound. They generally have effects that
compliment an acoustic guitar tone such as reverb, chorus,
delay.
We care a selection of amplifiers for you to listen to and choose from. Choose with your ears.
